8 Sneaky Ways to Score Fashion Deals Without Breaking the Bank

If you want to score fashion deals, you’ll fall in love with these tips!

I’ve been a fashion lover for as long as I can remember. I used to love wearing my mother’s clothes and dressing up in her heeled shoes—it was one of my biggest joys. When I got older and had my first job, I went to the shops and got myself a bag, a new pair of Oxford shoes, and some gorgeous, elegant pants to wear to the office.

But my fashion affinity quickly turned into a terrible addiction I didn’t know how to overcome. My wardrobe was constantly filled with items I didn’t even know I had, and the worst part was that I was complaining about not having anything to wear. And yes, those constant shopping sprees were emptying my pockets like crazy.

After countless cleaning sessions, donating clothes, and finding creative ways to repurpose old pieces, I finally learned how to shop sustainably and only buy what I truly need. Now, I only purchase items I love and can mix and match; materials are heavenly, and everything stays within the budget.

It took me years to reach this place, but as a former shopaholic, I can help you score the best fashion deals. Whether you want to cut costs on a fabulous pair of shoes, save on a suit, or avoid paying full price for an item, I’m here to offer my help.

Today’s article is about looking good on a budget, so let’s discuss how to negotiate, trick, haggle, or simply score better fashion deals overall. Let’s begin!

1. Play with the retailer online

If you want to score a significant online fashion deal, you must learn how to tease the retailer online—and I don’t mean flirting. If there’s something retailers hate about customers, it’s people abandoning their carts. Believe it or not, studies say that roughly 7 in 10 purchases aren’t completed at web stores.

Whether you gave it a second thought and decided that the item was too expensive or simply got distracted, the retailer doesn’t know. Their goal is to persuade you to hit the “purchase” button, and they’ll be more likely to do anything to make you buy from them.

As a result, the store will typically send you follow-up emails with discount codes to remind you about the forgotten cart. So, if you don’t mind abandoning your cart at the altar, you could be lucky and end up with a better deal.

2. Avoid the center of the store

Did you know that the placement of a specific item in the store is influenced by psychology? People are naturally drawn to the center of a room, and clothing stores take full advantage of this—it’s why the priciest items are always front and center!

So, where should you head in the store to score the best fashion deals? Most shoppers won’t make it all the way to the back, and since nearly everyone is right-handed, we instinctively veer right. That’s why stores place their best promos in these spots—right by the door and at the very back—to grab your attention and boost foot traffic!

3. Buy in bulk

If there’s a store you like and want to buy multiple things from, here’s how to get a deal: pick up a garment you love and find a sales associate. Tell them you’d like to purchase another item, but only if you can get a discount. Since they often work on commission, they’ll be more likely to offer a deal—even if it’s just 10% off!

4. Cash in on local loyalty

Discover which well-known companies have their headquarters near your home. Many of these companies often host warehouse sales or offer employee-only discounts at their local locations, sometimes sharing these deals publicly as a courtesy for customers.

Stay informed regarding these specific events because you can find fantastic discounts on high-quality products. This is an easy way to save a significant amount of money without having to search for deals elsewhere!

5. Know when to buy

This might be a little tricky because every store has a different approach to sales, but as a general rule, once an item has lingered in the store for six weeks, everything that hasn’t been sold will be discounted on the 43rd day.

So, if you’ve found something you love and it’s rather expensive, keep an eye on it until that time frame has passed, and you might be lucky enough to score an amazing fashion deal. But be careful with this one, because particular sizes sell out pretty fast!

6. Go to outlet malls

Everyone loves a good deal, so why not shop at outlet malls? It’s an amazing way to save money and get high-quality items. But there’s a catch too, so you must be cautious. Here are my two top tips for shopping at outlet malls:

Keep in mind that most items have two price tags: a higher price and then the discounted one. If the higher price is listed as anything other than “original” (like “retail value” or “compared to”), it’s more likely a garment made specifically for the outlet, which means that the quality won’t be as great as you’d hoped.

Other than that, make sure you always pay with cash! This way, you can ask the cashier for a discount in exchange for saving the store the 3-5% fee they pay on card transactions.

7. Shop the kids’ aisle

I feel like kids today are developing faster than we did, and we can actually use that to our advantage when shopping! If you want to score the best fashion deals, the kids’ department is definitely worth checking out.

No matter your size, hats, scarves, bags, and even basic T-shirts, leggings, or turtlenecks often come at lower prices, and they’re typically just as stylish and functional!

For example, last year, I was on the hunt for a pair of snow boots. In the women’s section, they were priced at $30, but since I wear a size 5.5, I decided to check the kids’ aisle. Lucky me, I found the exact same boots for $10 less! You can guess which ones I took home that day.

…If you need high-quality T-shirts that look amazing on both men and women, don’t forget to check out Amazon! I recently bought these for my husband, but I look stunning in them, too!

8. Answer the survey

If you’ve ever looked at your receipts (paper or digital), you’ve probably noticed a URL at the bottom inviting you to take a quick survey about your shopping experience. Many brands also send follow-up emails a few days after your purchase, asking for feedback.

Here’s the best part: some retailers truly appreciate your time and will reward you with a 5% or 10% discount on your next purchase just for taking a few minutes to fill out their survey. It’s a win-win!
