6. How popular is Alexa?
Alexa is indeed a star. There are very few gadgets that caught the attention of the public as much as Aexa did. Commercials, jokes on late-night TV, and all the popularity might make you think that everybody has Alexa in their homes.
But is this the truth?
The retail sales of voice assistants have grown over the past few years and are expected to grow even more in the next few years. People are now aware of how useful these gadgets are, and they want to take advantage of all of their features.
But Alexa is not the only option when talking about voice assistants. For the first time ever, Google Home smart speakers’ sales just surpassed those of Amazon’s Echo. Both Apple’s HomePod and Microsoft’s Cortana are formidable competitors. Amazon is a front-runner because of its early advantage, but up until this year, it had the race basically to itself.
Today, most smart homes and smart ecosystems integrate voice assistants from Amazon, Google, or Apple. The ownership of a device does not, however, indicate a significant number of transactions or customer connections with speech technology. Certainly not yet.
