9. Board Games

Board games are a wonderful family pastime and are super popular right now. In the days before smartphones and television, families used to sit around and play games. My family and I did this when I was a kid; how about you?

Nostalgia is one of the reasons why people start collecting stuff; it brings back sweet memories from their childhood. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise why people are willing to spend a lot of money on old board games.

If you have some in your basement, then you’re lucky. Do some research on the internet and see how much money you can make by selling them. The most expensive board game is an original Monopoly game from 1933, which was sold in 2011 for $116,863.

  1. I have 3 or 4 items I would like to know how to sell them. Where do I go to see what they are worth if anything.

    1. Google any results of auctions of the items you have. That’s what I did and found out an old campbells soup sign sold for 16000$. Mine was in better shape and sold for 19000$

      1. Andrea stanton

I have alot of albums as well as 45’s but the albums are OLD,MOM’S MABLEY,and much more frank sinatra& more

    2. Hi. I started selling on eBay around 1997 and really got into it for a long time. What I would do is to go to eBay, and enter a search for your item. This will bring up active items which can NOT be trusted to come up with approximate values as many items have been listed at insane prices and 2nd hand shops LOVE to quote these prices as what this is going for. The only value that you can trust is the price that was actually paid by a winning auction bidder.
That’s easy to get though. When you’re on the auction page for your item just go to the left hand side of the page and select the filter that says completed and/or sold. That way you get the end result of these auctions.

    1. I would be very interested in your Playboy magazine collection, depending on which issues you have.bikeguy628 yahoo.com please let me know.

      1. My husband has a large Playboy collection, most are in almost mint condition. Which issues are you interested in buying?

    1. I could only find them for @ $30.00 but if you find someone who has been selling Avon for a while they might give you more….. a lot of the Avon people around me collect vintage items…. good luck!

  2. I got three large boxes of the original Star Wars stuff that’s never been opened or out of the box. I forgot it was there and just found it. I got it when the base was getting rid of it all when they were closing down. I bought 3 shopping carts full for the kids and put it away. Then we moved and the rest is history. Never even looked at it.

  3. I have a few things that might interest people for purchase. Vinyl, sneakers, stamps, money, sports memorabilia for the right people and more.

  4. I have a Singer sewing machine in its original case. Also a wrought-iron sewing machine holder with the foot pedal. My oldest sister was born in 1938 the next in 1942 and myself 1946. My mother used to make almost all of our clothes on this machine. Not sure who to contact.

    1. Hi Wilma…nice meeting you. I collect old pennies and would be interested in buying them How many do you have and any idea of oldest or newest? Thanks…Mike…

  5. Hello

Yes I have several items I would like to sell at the top of the list is an extensive stamp collection but where would I find a legit estimator to give me. Fair price!

  6. I have old Paintings from 1902 and so on. Listed artists. Don’t know where to go to get some kind of estimates on them to sell them.

  7. I have records that predate vinyl
I believe that these are actually made of some sort of shellac material. They are also only ‘pressed’ on one side. They also predate album covers.
Does anyone have any information on value of these? TIA

  8. I have a large collection of vintage Playboy magazines. The one Christmas issue with Pamela Anderson sitting on Dan Akroyd’s lap (dressed as a Conehead) has a value between $7,500 and $10,000 according to some sources. I have 2 of that issue. I just don’t know how to sell it or where.

    1. I was curious, so I went to ebay and did a search for ‘Playboy Conehead’ and found the issue you’re talking about. And then I chose the sort order of highest price first. Just as you said, this immediately showed a current auction for that issue priced at $9,000. But THAT price is meaningless since it is merely what they are asking. You need to look up auctions that have completed successfully and that’s easy to do.

Go to the far left of the auction listings and there are a lot of filters you can choose. Select ‘sold’ and/or ‘completed’ and you’ll find what people have actually paid for this issue. When I did this, the highest successful auction for this copy was $199. So, I would expect that is a reasonable estimate of the ACTUAL value of your issues. Condition makes a huge difference too so take that into consideration. Best of luck.

  9. Dear Carla: Please inform us all as to how to find these auctions. Are there any points of contact you might share? The only guidance you point us to is eBay.

  14. I think there might be a site or two that offer “appraiser” listings. People who will evaluate and appraise the value of an item. See if there’s anyone local or in a nearby city, then make an appointment.
Also see if there are any of those on-the-road style appraisers that can help find out how much some things you have might be worth.
Just tossing some ideas out there. I’m trying to find a way to sell a few of my own stock of stuff too.

  15. I have lots of old pyrex baking dishes and one huge “yellow” bowl that I’ve been told is a collector’s item. My 9 room house is full of so many “old” and pretty things but…..I’m 90 and don’t know how to do what’s necessary to sell online. I would pay a commission to anyone would would do this for me. Is there such a person?
