1. Bicycle helmets
One of the first things you should never buy secondhand is bicycle helmets. It doesn’t matter if you want it for yourself or your children and grandchildren; helmets are supposed to be new when you purchase them.
Maybe the person who used it before had an issue with their hair, or maybe because the helmet is pretty old, it may be a bit outdated and less safe than the newest models on the market.
If you’re into cycling, you better look for new helmets, even if at a yard sale they might be a bargain. After all, it’s for your safety!
2. Mattresses
Indeed, most mattresses are usually pretty expensive; that’s why looking for a used one at a yard sale might be a better idea, you probably think. But let me tell you a secret: All the mattresses (but especially the old ones) hold a lot of bed bugs! So instead of buying a super-affordable one that can infest your home with six-legged unwanted friends, look for discounts on new ones.
Anyway, this is also applicable to old furniture, so if you still want to buy one, be careful and inspect it closely.
