8. Stuffed plushies for kids
You may want to surprise your children or your grandchildren with an adorable plushie, but purchasing it from yard sales is not a good idea. Because they can’t be washed in a washing machine, just as mattresses can be full of unwanted bugs or simply smell funny! You don’t know who the owner was and how the plushie was kept, so to avoid bringing a weird and not-so-clean item into your home, don’t buy used plushies.
However, plastic or wood-made toys or collectibles that aren’t that easy to find in the stores or are way too expensive for your budget are worth buying from a yard sale!
9. Vinyl records
If you’ve reached this far with your reading, then you probably concluded that yard sales are amazing; you just need to be careful with what you’re planning to buy. The last items on the list are vinyl records. Most of the people who are selling them are not collectors or connoisseurs, which is why most of them weren’t kept in optimal conditions.
Once I went browsing through vinyl records and was easily distracted by seeing a Pink Floyd album, I dared to open the cover. And what have I found? A dirty, scratched old vinyl that probably wasn’t worth the $20 the person asked me to pay for. I was sad because I wanted it, but then again, it was a lesson I learned, which is never, ever go shopping again for vinyl records at garage sales.
