  1. The final payout may not be that much

It’s tempting to allow yourself to daydream of winning the lottery and becoming a billionaire. What with the number of winners over the years, the dream might not even be that farfetched. However, experts recommend caution and a down-to-earth attitude. Keep in mind that not everything you see on TV or the internet is real.

Sure, the advertised prize might be huge, but the winner does not take it all. As explained by lottery expert Jessica Whitehouse, the award is usually divided between the lottery organizer and the winner. “It’s about 50 percent of the total amount of bets they take for their own profit and to cover for the costs like staff, betting terminals, a percentage for the affiliated shops, and promotion of the lottery,” she explains.

The remaining amount is given to the winners. The cherry on top, but not in a good way, is that in some states or countries, winners also have to pay a tax for bigger prizes. Therefore, if the jackpot or prize isn’t more than what you pay, it’s clear that the lottery is more about losing than about winning.

When I buy a lottery ticket, I am buying a dream. The dream lasts until I hear the numbers drawn.
I really don’t expect to win…..the most I’ve won was $4.00! But I have such fun deciding how
to spend the money……who is in need of it and giving to my two favorite charities .
