Amazon Employees Revealed 8 Ways to Save Cash on Every Order

We can all agree that Amazon is a retail giant. With everything from furniture pieces and pet food to books and appliances, it’s no wonder that it became the world’s largest retailer in 2019. It has even surpassed Walmart, according to the Forbes Global 2000 List.

With millions of items for sale and lots of perks for Prime members, Amazon has become a one-stop shop for shoppers. Selection and prices are hard to beat, and customers can also rely on great service.

If you’re looking for ways to keep more cash in your wallet while still shopping on Amazon, you’re in the right place. We’ve got some insider tips that will help you save money, so you’ll be able to use the money on something else, like something special, the next time Prime Day comes around.

You’ll be surprised to learn how easy it is to get cash back, snag additional discounts, and find great sales. Let’s get started!

1. Pay with an Amazon credit card

One of the ways to save money on Amazon is by applying for one of their two credit cards: the Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card or the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card.

With the Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card, you earn 3% cash back at the Amazon website and Whole Foods Market. The credit card also gives you 2% cash back at gas stations, restaurants, and drugstores. For all other purchases, you’ll earn 1%. There’s no annual fee, and you don’t need to be a Prime member to apply for this card. There’s also a welcome bonus that’s awarded with a $50 gift card.

With the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card, you earn 5% cash back at Amazon.com and Whole Foods Market. The credit card also gives you 2% cash back at gas stations, restaurants, and drugstores. For all other purchases, you’ll earn 1%.

There’s no annual fee, but you need to be an Amazon Prime member to apply for this card. There’s a welcome bonus as well: a $150 gift card upon approval.

2. Use cashback sites

Another way to earn cash back is through certain sites that provide this feature. Basically, you’ll be rewarded for your Amazon purchases, and some sites will even offer you a bonus for signing up.

For instance, Rakuten offers up to 5% cash back on purchases, and new users can even get a $10 Amazon gift card for signing up. You can earn up to 6% cash back with Ibotta, depending on what you purchase. And, if you’re not yet a Prime member, you can receive a $20 Amazon gift card after signing up through Ibotta.

One thing to keep in mind is that you can’t use more than one site on the same Amazon purchase.

3. Use a general cash-back card

There are several credit cards that offer cash back on your Amazon purchases, and some of them have a reward rate of up to 5%. For instance, with the Chase Freedom Flex, you can earn 5% cash back on rotating categories (up to $1,500 spent) and travel purchased using the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal; 3% cash back at drugstores and restaurants (including delivery and takeout); and 1% on all other purchases. Some rotating categories include Amazon.

Another option would be the Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards credit card, which lets you earn 3% cash back on the first $2,500 you spend in the category you choose each quarter. For example, online shopping is one of the categories you can select.

4. See if you’re eligible to get a discounted membership

An Amazon Prime membership comes with lots of benefits, including Whole Foods discounts, Prime Video access, and free two-day shipping. These perks are hard to beat, but you have to pay for them.

For standard Prime membership, you’ll have to pay $14.99 per month or $139 annually. However, those who receive government assistance or are in school may qualify for a discounted membership.

For Medicaid and EBT cardholders, the Prime membership is only $6.99 per month. And students pay only $7.49 per month or $69 per year for a Prime Student membership. You’ll need to confirm your eligibility before getting this special price.

5. Keep an eye on special offers from your credit card issuer

You have a cash-back credit card that you can use for day-to-day purchases. However, your card issuer may surprise you with some special discounts for applying rewards points or paying with an eligible card. These types of deals aren’t typically automatic, though. If you want to take advantage of them, you’ll have to watch for them on your rewards page and activate them.

For instance, a now-expired promotion allowed eligible American Express cardholders to save up to $30 on an Amazon purchase of $60 or more. All they had to do was use Amex Membership Rewards at the checkout.

Though the offer is no longer active, jumping on similar promotions can be an easy way to save a lot of money.

6. Opt for no-rush shipping

One of the benefits of having an Amazon Prime membership is that you can enjoy free 2-day shipping on thousands, if not millions, of products. However, if you don’t need your order to be delivered that quickly, you can choose to have a reward or discount instead. Yep, that’s right!

As you head to the delivery section, you’ll see an option called “Free No-Rush Shipping.” Select it, and you’ll get your order within six business days.

If you choose to get a discount, it will be applied instantly. However, if you choose to get a reward, it will be added to your Amazon account once your order is shipped. Of course, amounts vary by order. Rewards will be applied automatically, so you don’t have to worry about tracking them.

7. Shop Amazon Outlet and Warehouse deals

Whether you’re looking for a new patio set or a new pair of headphones, you can find some great deals on overstocked products at Amazon Outlet. And you can also find millions of pre-owned and open-box items that have been through a 20-point check at Amazon Warehouse.

Basically, the items are in good shape and at a better price than the brand-new ones. So, Amazon Warehouse is an amazing place to find home goods and electronics at reasonable prices.

Here’s what you should do: before shopping through Amazon’s main page, go have a look at these shops first—you may be surprised at the discounts you score.

8. Shop Woot! Deals

Woot! is a retailer that dishes out limited-time offers and daily deals in a range of categories. The company was bought by Amazon in 2010 and has been offering great deals ever since. Since the retail giant owns the site, Prime members receive shipping benefits, like free standard shipping on Woot as well as free express shipping on the site’s custom shirt section called Shirt.Woot.

Discounts are pretty hard to beat, so it’s worth having a look at their site regularly. Signing up is easy. You just have to click on the “Log in with Amazon” button, and that’s it (this obviously only works if you already have an Amazon account).
