What’s your favorite grocery store?
Whether you like to go around the aisles and pick up all the things you’ve written on that list and maybe a few extras, or you absolutely hate it when you have to go food shopping, one thing’s for sure: grocery shopping is part of our lives.
I used to like going to these stores and looking at the food labels, thinking about what types of delicious meals to cook for my family, but since inflation has become a huge problem in today’s society, I don’t enjoy going to the store and seeing all the products being so expensive. It makes me angry that I have to pay a lot of money for only a few things.
I was very upset about this subject, but one of my friends told me that she discovered a few grocery stores that offer impressive discounts to people aged 55 or older. I’m one of those people, and you better believe that I checked every single one of these shops to find the best discounts possible.
Speaking of that, the discounts offered by some of them are typically applied during specific days of the week or month, so don’t expect to find your favorite product on sale every single day.
Another thing you should keep in mind is that every single food shop is different, so you might want to ask your local grocery store whether they offer discounts for senior citizens and if you’re eligible for one.
Now that everything’s clear, here are 7 grocery stores that really care about their senior customers’ money:
1. Brookshire’s
Brookshire Grocery Company is a grocery store chain that has multiple stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas. As I’ve previously said, every shop is different, so their offers might differ from one to another, depending on the place you live.
But typically, people who are at least 60 years old can save 5% on their purchases if they use the store’s thank you card. This is usually available on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and although it might not seem like a big percentage, it can add up pretty quickly.
If you’re interested in this offer, don’t forget to ask for your discount at the checkout. Another thing you should be aware of is that the discounts don’t apply to particular products, such as dairy, tobacco, drug prescriptions, fuel, gift cards, alcohol, stamps, Western Union money orders, bill payment, and tickets.
But in order to be sure that the information is accurate when it comes to the Brookshire’s in your neighborhood, you’d better ask the staff about it the next time you pay them a visit.
2. Fred Meyer
Another company that cares about the wallets of the elderly is Fred Meyer, which is an American grocery store chain that was founded in 1922 in the city of Portland, Oregon. You can find these stores in the northwest of the country, in states like Washington, Alaska, Oregon, and Idaho.
If you decide to check them out and try out their products, you should know that they care about their senior customers, so on the first Tuesday of each month, people who are at least 55 years old can get a discount of 10% on particular items.
This means that you can save money on foodstuffs and nutrition products that carry the store’s name, such as Kroger, Fred Meyer, and Simple Truth. But you can also use the 10% discount on other items, including home products, clothing items, accessories, shoes, and even electronics, so if you live in any of the states we’ve previously mentioned, make sure you check out this grocery store!
3. Tops Friendly Markets
Have you ever heard of a grocery store called Tops Friendly Markets? This amazing American supermarket chain was founded in 1962, and it has plenty of stores in Pennsylvania, New York, and Vermont.
So if you decide to purchase your food items for them and you’re at least 60 years old, consider yourself lucky, because the retailer has many promotions for you on the first Tuesday of every month.
All you have to do is go to the customer service desk, sign up, and you’ll immediately have access to different offers on prescription purchases, and you can even benefit from a 6% discount on your grocery bill. When you’re done signing up, the discount will automatically be applied to your shopping spree at the checkout.
4. Bashas
Bashas is another grocery store that cares about their customers’ wallets, especially if they’re seniors. It’s a family-owned grocery store chain that is typically located in Arizona, and it’s owned by Raley’s Supermarkets.
So if you plan a huge grocery shopping trip, make sure you go there on the first Wednesday of every month, because if you’re at least 55 years old, you can actually save 10% on your purchase, and that can be a pretty big deal, especially if you have many items in your cart.
The employees want to make sure that people who benefit from their discounts are indeed seniors, so don’t forget to bring your identification along so you have proof. Another thing about this grocery store is that you’ll have to use the store’s thank you card so you can benefit from the 10% discount.
However, this promotion can’t be used for a specific list of products, such as alcoholic drinks, postage stamps, fuel, lottery tickets, taxes, gift cards, tobacco products, and Western Union transactions.
5. DeCicco Family Markets
Another grocery store all seniors should check out is DeCicco Family Markets, because they have amazing products and great deals for you. They don’t have specific days in the week or month when they offer big discounts to all of their older customers, but they will offer you a discount on many of their regular-priced items if you show them proof that you’re at least 63 years old.
In order to benefit from their promotions, you have to be registered, have your ID with you so they can check your age, and also carry your DeCicco Preferred Card with you. If you have one of these grocery stores near you, make sure you pay them a visit and ask about their discounts for seniors, because things can vary and you’d better be informed.
6. Uncle Giuseppe’s
If you’re looking for some tasty Italian-inspired food, Uncle Giuseppe’s is the grocery store you should go to. So make sure you pay them a visit as quickly as you can because if you go to the store’s customer service desk with your identification, you can easily apply for discounts that are created especially for seniors.
After you’re done with the sign-up process, the great thing is that you’ll be able to use your discount code every single Wednesday when you shop from them. If that’s not a fantastic deal for seniors, I don’t know what is!
If you want to try Italian products but you don’t have an Uncle Giuseppe’s grocery store in your city, I have good news for you! You can find a lot of tasty meals and products on Amazon, such as this basket that is going to take next weekend’s cooking sessions to the next level!
7. Weis Markets
The 7th grocery store that cares about people’s wallets is Weis Markets. If you want to purchase things and save money at the same time, don’t forget to check out this retailer, take your identification with you, and ask the staff how you can register for the elderly promotions.
If you’re at least 60 years old, consider yourself lucky, because you can benefit from a 10% discount on different products from the Weis brand merchandise every single Tuesday. So what are you doing next week? Are you going to any of these grocery stores? Don’t forget to ask them about how you can benefit from their deals because you’ll save a lot in the long run!
